Windows Live Writer Blog - Download Windows Live Writer
You’ve now completed the hardest part of getting started – you’ve downloaded Windows Live Writer and installed it! Now all you have to do is create your account on WLW and you will be editing your website in minutes!
Pointing Windows Live Writer At Your Website
- Open Windows Live Writer and select the “Blogs” dropdown menu
- Select “Add Blog Account...”
- Select “Other Blog service” and click Next.
- Enter your primary URL, e.g. this sites primary URL is http://www.wellplanet.com
- Enter your username and password for logging into your website and click Next.
- In the dropdown labeled 'Type of weblog that you are using' choose Metaweblog API.
- For the “remote posting URL”, enter the same URL you entered above followed by /metaPost.ashx, e.g. http://www.wellplanet.com/metaPost.ashx there is one more part that you need to enter depending on the part of your site that you want to edit.
- “key” - use this to specify the part of the site you would like to edit, e.g. News Articles, Text/HTML (Normal Content on the site), or your Newsletter. I suggest creating 3 separate blog accounts – one for each part of your site.
- To edit the News Articles on your site (on my site I call these the Wellness Newsletter, however some of our clients have created their own featured content, e.g. Wellness Wisdom, which uses the News Articles module of the website) enter the following posting url: http://www.wellplanet.com/metapost.ashx?key=News Articles
- To edit the standard content of your site (also known as the Text/HTML content) create an account with the following posting url: http://www.wellplanet.com/metapost.ashx?key=Add Text/HTML
- To edit the Wellness Newsletter that is sent from the website to all of your websites subscribers you would create and account using the following posting url: http://www.wellplanet.com/metapost.ashx?key=Wellness Newsletter
- When you have added all the details for an account a popup will appear which asks 'Allow Writer to Create a Temporary Post'. The only account type which this really affects is the News Articles. With the Add Text/HTML and Wellness Newsletter I would suggest selecting “No” as selecting “Yes” for these two accounts has no benefit. If you select “Yes” with the News Articles account it will enable the preview feature – where you will be able to Preview from your Desktop what the post will look like on your website (honestly – I don’t use this feature as it only takes a few seconds to post it and actually see it live on your website).
- That's it! Happy editing!
