Using one of our clients logos as a starting point for creating a custom skin I will walk you through the customization process as if our client selected suggest for all of the items on the customization form. Although I don't recommend selecting suggest on all items (as this would cause the process to take a lot more time) for this demonstration we will proceed in this manner.

The image above is a clip from the current website skin showing the logo. Looking at the colors in the logo I would start by finding Color Themes that would compliment their logo. Below I have selected 12 Color Themes that have a variety of Greens. When looking at the Color Themes it is important to note that the color of the currently displayed header is essentially a guide to the Color Theme:

Having suggested the above Color Themes I would then ask for feedback on these to try to reduce my selection to top 3 choices.

When presented with the options above our client selected “Herb Symphony” as their favorite Color Theme.

Layouts:

Here you are looking at the position of the header area vs the menu and the side column position. There are 4 possible option: 1. Menu Bottom – Side Column Right, 2. Menu Top – Side Column Right, 3. Menu Top – Side Column Left, and 4. Menu Bottom – Side Column Left. The only item you are reviewing here is the Layout – all other features will be customized at a later stage.

Sheet:

Here you are looking at the Sheet, which is how the content area is separated from the background area. We have six options display below numbered Option 1 – 6 from left to right.

In this round we will start by reviewing the fonts.

Fonts:

Next we will look at the various menu types:

Menus:

Please choose your favorite Font and Menu. Then submit comment to this post below. (be sure to use your full domain name – www.fpc.com as there is SEO benefit from doing this).

Once I receive your comments/selections I will use all of your selections to build the next round for review.

In this round we will start with an easy one. The text alignment of the footer. 3 Choices: Left, Right, or Center.

Next we will look at blocks. There are several to choose from. If you can narrow it down to 2 or 3 it would be great. However, if one seems perfect that is even better.

And the final item for this round is the buttons. The same style of button was shown in each of the images above. I will now display all of the buttons using a single block style.

Whew!! Please review the above and let me know which of these items you prefer. Again if there are a couple that you like please let me know and when we get to the final review we can look at both options.

Here are a few completed samples based on the info you that you have provided thus far and me just trying to make it amazing.

  1. In skin #1 I used an abstract wave in the header background with your logo in the foreground. I added a gentle outline and shadow to your logo to make it standout against the green. I used a leaf pattern on a fading background. I also added a small flower to the Blocks logo.
  2. In skin #2 the only item I changed is the header background to a clouded sky and gave this image a 25% Tint to match the skin (I probably added too much tint as it looks a bit greeny now that I look closer).
  3. I reduced the tint for the header image to 10% and modified the background to give it more offset against the header.
  4. I changed the header to a solid background and gave it a leaf pattern. I used a fixed grass background (the fixed grass is always seen at the bottom of the screen no matter where you are on the website – so although it appears to be at the very bottom of the skin in this image it would always be visible if you were on the site) I also added a floral glare in the upper left corner of the background.

So I really need your feedback to see if I am on track with any of these changes. Tell me what you like, what you hate, and anything specific that you would like to see. As you are feeling a bit overwhelmed I am really trying to streamline this for you. I have about 100 different background images to choose from. I have about 50 basic backgrounds. And for both the header and the background I can add hundreds of different special affects. So, in the examples above I was trying to take guidance from the choices you have made thus far and using the logo to help inspire the affects. The more feedback you can provide the easier it will be for me to provide you with what you are looking for.

To see some samples of what we can do with the header take a quick look at this article:  New Custom Skinning for Your Chiropractic Website

Look specifically at the tab titled “Header” and you will see all the variations we can make for the header. Let me know if there are any specific configurations that you would like to see with your header.

Then look at the tab called background and you can see some of the basic backgrounds we have. If you would like to see any of them with your skin configuration just let me know.

Hopefully with the feedback you are able to provide in this round we should be able to get very close to a completed skin with the next round of revision. You can either comment on this post or send me an email to let me know your thoughts.

Here are some examples using the skin and background you selected combined with some custom header images including images of your office.

All of the custom header above are fully adjustable. I wanted to give you an idea of what the various images you provided would look like with the other parts of the skin you have selected. If you can tell me the one that you like the best and any further adjustments you would like to see. I think we are getting very close.

"herb symphony" goes best with our office logo scheme. It's just for color right not design??? (ie. the palm trees on the bottom)

I fully agree with your choice. I will now use your Color Theme choice to create the next two customization steps: layout and sheet. Let me know which of these two you prefer and I will use all 3 choices for creating the next step. If at any point in the process of creating the customization you would like to see a variation, e.g. if you would like to see how another Color These would look...just let me know.

I like layout #4. As for sheets I am not too picky. #2 is my favorite though.

Hey Jamie,

We aim to please - so although you are not feeling too picky - we will go with your favorite. I might add that I agree as you may have noticed that I choose #2 for this site. I look forward to confirming you next selections. We are nearly through the tough parts.

Hey Jamie,
Please let me know your choice! We are getting very close to the final steps. Respond with
Footer = ?
Blocks = ?
Button = ?

If you have more than one choice separate your choices by a comma.

From Above Down,
Pat
